A trip to the farmers market has always been more than just a quick produce-shopping outing for our family and friends. In fact, for many Bergen County residents, the farmers market is more of a fun yet convenient day trip of sorts, which often includes enjoying live entertainment, socializing with a unique array of farmers and vendors, and plugging into positive energy and local community spirit that you can’t find anywhere else.
Every Farmers Market is Different!
If you get a chance to visit a few markets around the Bergen County area, you’ll find that each has its own personality and charm.
Some local farmers markets offer a robust mix of vendors and cool items for sale, while others are more basic shopping experiences with locally-grown fruits and vegetables for sale and a few extra frills.
While visiting each market, make time to explore each local downtown community or shopping district! We plan to work our way through as many Bergen County farmers markets as possible this year to experience what each has to offer.
Farmers Markets Are Good for the Community
While farmers markets in Bergen County obviously provide regional farmers and other local vendors with an opportunity to sell their produce and products while supplementing their income, these local mini-festivals are also helping to boost the economies of many local area downtown shopping districts.
Farmers markets are a welcome addition to local commerce because they attract a large volume of visitors who may continue their shopping or day trip throughout the local community.
There’s Probably a Farmers Market Near You
There are more than 8,000 farmers markets operating throughout the country. We have more than 10 local farmers markets here in Bergen County, each offering its unique mix of vendors and products to purchase.
The number of farmers and vendors and the selection of food and (non-food) offerings, and market schedules vary from market to market. We recommend that you visit each market’s social media page or website to confirm the days and hours they’re open and get a better feel for what you can expect regarding items for sale, unique and interesting vendors, entertainment, parking, etc.
