To promote breast and ovarian cancer awareness, students from One River School of Art and Design in Englewood, New Jersey will present paintings representing the bravery of cancer patients.
The “Strength and Courage” exhibit held at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey runs through May 31, 2015.
“Strength and Courage” is being presented in conjunction with Bright Pink, the only national non-profit organization focused on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women.
“We’re honored to help raise awareness for the great work that Bright Pink is doing,” says Matt Ross, founder of One River.
“Our students are thrilled to have a chance to contribute to the cause by sharing their personal art creations. They sought to evoke feelings through painting and use emotion as a source, and they learned how to incorporate symbolism and imagery within their works.”
Each student was given an 18” x 24” canvas and asked to capture a personal struggle or an example of overcoming a major life challenge. The students, who range in age from 8-18, hail from Tenafly, Cresskill, Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Teaneck, Fort Lee, Hillsdale, Glen Rock, Bogota, Leonia, Cliffside Park, Closter, Guttenberg, Little Ferry, New Milford, Paramus, Dumont, Garfield, and Edgewater were also required to incorporate pink coloring within their paintings.
“We’re proud to support Bright Pink as well as One River Gallery’s students,” says Lisa Herrmann, Director of Marketing for Westfield Garden State Plaza. “Their lovely artwork is an innovative way to express their talents and positively represent our community.”
The artwork is on display near the south corridor of the AMC Theater.
Attendance is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Matt Ross at One River School at [email protected] or 201-266-5244.
