In 2004, the YCS Education Division hosted its first public exhibition of the students’ artwork at a local library. It was named “Blossoms” in honor of the children’s blossoming talents, and was an immediate success. Blossoms quickly became an annual tradition with a growing following and glowing press and TV coverage.
About 10 years ago, YCS was invited to display the students’ artwork at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) in Englewood. It has since become a permanent exhibit during the month of May in the theater’s gallery. In 2016, the Intermezzo Art Gallery was renamed the Sandy Bennett Gallery in honor of Ms. Bennett’s devotion to showcasing the artwork of the community at the venue. Ms. Bennett loved the children at YCS. She never missed a Blossoms opening and always did whatever she could to make sure the event was a success.
With the support and encouragement of bergenPAC, the opening celebration has expanded to include a chorus, musical performance, and poetry readings. Entries for the exhibit have also been extended to children from YCS group homes. Blossoms has truly become an event that the children, their families and staff look forward to.
This year, we were not going to let the coronavirus rob our children of the experience of exhibiting their artwork. So now, we invite you to enjoy our 1st Virtual Blossoms Art Exhibition. You will be able to take a tour of all the artwork, read the poetry and meet the artists.
We hope you enjoy the 1st Virtual Blossoms Art Exhibition as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you. Thank you
