The Krame Center for Mindful Living at Ramapo College of New Jersey has announced its schedule of courses and meditation sessions for fall 2019. The following is a complete list of courses for the fall 2019 semester:

  • RAMAPO YOGA TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM INFORMATION SESSION

Thursday, September 5, 7-8 p.m.

Community members who wish to expand their job market skills and enhance their overall health and well-being may wish to pursue the 200-hour yoga teacher certification to develop a working knowledge of fundamental yoga concepts, practice and teaching methods.   • FREE MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESSED REDUCTION ORIENTATION

Wednesday, September 11, 7-9 p.m.

Friday, September 13, 9-11 a.m.

Learn about the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course at an orientation session. These orientation sessions are free of charge and are required of all participants. Over 40,000 patients, referred by thousands of physicians and hundreds of other health care providers, have completed the internationally acclaimed course, the most widely researched mind-body program in the world. Published research has shown that mindfulness training can be an important adjunct to conventional medical treatment of many disorders as well as powerful way of reducing stress and pain. Physicians refer their patients to the MBSR course with conditions including asthma, chronic pain, gastro-intestinal stress, high blood pressure, anxiety and panic episodes and sleep disturbances, stress and heart disease.   • LEARNING TO MEDITATE ONE-DAY RETREAT

This Krame Center for Mindful Living at Ramapo College retreat is for those interested in learning the basics of how to meditate, or for more experienced meditators looking for a beginner’s mind approach.   • “COMMUNICATING MINDFULLY”– HALF-DAY RETREAT WITH CATHERINE & KAILEN KRAME

Saturday, September 21, 9 a.m. – noon

Using mindfulness practices and mindful listening exercises, you will explore what it means to communicate mindfully and practice tools that you can utilize in interactions with others in our daily lives. You will also explore the six points of mindful speech as a means of recognizing patterns. By becoming aware of how we communicate with others, we can begin to improve our inter-personal skills. Burgeoning research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing; reduced stress, anxiety and depression; maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise; and satisfying personal relationships. Christopher Germer, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and lecturer on psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
