Garden Club of Harrington Park April Meeting: The Garden Club of Harrington Park will welcome back guest speaker Jeffrey Van Pelt at its next meeting on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the Harrington Park Library, 10 Herring Street, Harrington Park, New Jersey. Jeff will present a very timely program titled Spring or Fall — What’s the Best Time to Clean & Divide?”
Do you like to always have your garden look neat or are you someone who doesn’t mind a little mess? Your view on how you like your garden to look throughout the year will influence whether you’re a fall or spring cleanup person. Jeff will explore both sides of the debate while giving advice on when to prune and divide plants in your landscape.
Jeff is one of the Garden Club of Harrington Park’s favorite and also very knowledgeable lecturers. He earned a BS in Plant Science Horticulture from Cook College Rutgers University. He was the Horticulture Supervisor at the Somerset County Park for 15 years where he designed and directed the installation of landscape plantings and the maintenance of the Colonial Park Gardens, the Golf Course and Park plantings plus other areas throughout the park system. He oversaw the renovation and maintenance of the Rudolf W. van der Groot Rose Garden and developed the department’s public programming and lectures which are given to New Jersey garden clubs.
An avid organic home gardener and plant enthusiast, Jeff maintains vegetable gardens, perennial gardens, an herb garden, a greenhouse and is currently in the planning stage of installing a rose garden on his property. He enjoys hiking and says he is a “stalker of wildflowers in the woods”.
The meeting will be followed by a “Q & A” session and refreshments. Hostesses for the evening are Dottie Durbec and Hedy Galow.
Gardeners from all towns are welcome.
