Bergen County Martin Luther King Day Events: The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee of Ridgewood and Glen Rock invites the community to attend a series of events celebrating King’s life
A Reel Voices Film Festival screening of King in the Wilderness, will be held held on Friday, January 18th at the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 N. Maple Avenue, Ridgewood beginning at 7:00 pm. The documentary follows the final 18 months of Dr. King’s life, followed by a discussion led by Dr. Obery Hendricks, Jr. Refreshments will be served. Reservations are required. A Day of Service Project will be held on Saturday, January 19th at the Glen Rock Annex, 678 S. Maple Avenue, Glen Rock from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Also on January 19th, a Social Justice Forum will take place at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, 40 Central Avenue, Glen Rock from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The Forum will feature speakers Gurbir S. Grewal, New Jersey Attorney General and Glen Rock resident, Helen Archontou, CEO of YWCA Bergen County, and student panelists
A Gospel concert is planned for Sunday, January 20th at Mt. Bethel Church, 399 S. Broad Street in Ridgewood at 4:00 pm.
An interfaith worship service will take place on Monday, January 21st at the Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 100 Dayton Street, Ridgewood at 10:00 am. The featured speaker is Reverend Gregory Jerome Jackson, Pastor, Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack. Special guest is Nancy Giles. The service will be followed by the annual march at Van Neste square and a fellowship luncheon at Quimby Hall.
