The Mahwah Museum is hosting a webinar on Monday, December 7th at 7:30 pm featuring Gene Paul, the son of Les Paul. Gene will discuss the multifaceted history of Les Paul and his many accomplishments. This talk, All Things Les Paul: The Early Years of Recording, is part of the continuing Les Paul Legacy Series, hosted by the Les Paul in Mahwah Exhibit at the Mahwah Museum. A Q&A will follow Gene’s talk. The webinar is free but donations are always welcome. Registration to attend the webinar is required. Register here.
Gene Paul was born in 1944 and grew up listening to stories about his father’s accomplishments; Gene was especially curious about Les Paul’s ‘sound on sound’ machine and was able to ask Les many questions about it and his other invocations. By 1959, Gene had become an accomplished drummer, who travelled and performed with Les and Mary. In the late 1960’s, Les helped Gene land a job at Atlantic Records where he recorded with some of the greats of the time, including Aretha Franklin, The Modern Jazz Quartet and Gladys Knight.
Gene went on to become a successful recording engineer himself. He is currently the chief mastering engineer at G&J Audio, a mixing and mastering studio for major and independent labels focused on reissues and new recordings.
