The New Milford Woman’s Club, a non-profit organization, was established and federated in 1948 when a group of women joined together to share interests in their community and develop new friendships. Recently celebrating their 70th anniversary, Club members continue to support their community by volunteering time and resources, promoting friendship, sponsoring and donating to educational and social programs, and making a difference in the lives of others—as well as having fun together. Each year the Club awards scholarships for merit, art and music to high school students. The Club also sponsors several students who take part in a state-wide Girls Career Institute. Donations are also made to the New Milford Food Bank, and each year cookies are baked and packaged for New Milford Social Services department to share with those in need. A recent campaign to provide servicemen/women with greeting cards to send home to loved ones yielded over 6,000 cards for the USO.
All women from New Milford and the surrounding towns are welcome to join the group, which is part of the New Jersey State Federation of Woman’s Clubs founded in 1894. The Club is non-partisan and non-denominational. The New Milford Woman’s Club meets from September through June on the third Wednesday of each month at 1:00 pm at St. Matthew’s Church, 225 Center Street. For information or to join, call Janet Dengel at 201-988-1439.
