JCC of Northern NJ Celebrating Israel’s 70th Independence Day throughout April

Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day), from the evening of Wednesday, April 18 through Thursday, April 19, marks the founding of the modern state of Israel in 1948. In Israel, the occasion, which follows Yom Hazikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers), is a festive and patriotic celebration of the state’s and individuals’ achievements.

In the State of Israel, writers (and especially poets) have always held a place of special honor. They are a lot like the Prophets of the Hebrew Bible—speaking truth to power, turning a mirror on Israeli society, and providing a vision for Israel’s future. And Israelis pay attention to them!
Together, along with Rabbi Noah Fabricant, we’ll look at some of Israel’s most famous prophet-writers. What special message do they have about Israel’s past, present, and future? Join us on a trip to The Rockland JCC Jewish Film Festival to see The Testament, a movie about a Jewish historian investigating a Holocaust atrocity who uncovers an identity-challenging family secret.
