The Garden Club of Harrington Park will welcome back guest lecturer Bruce Crawford on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 7:30 pm, at the Harrington Park Library, 10 Herring Street, Harrington Park.
Crawford has wowed the garden club with numerous informative presentations. In this new program Bruce will focus on how to design the front yard for curb appeal.
How often is the front yard of a home reduced to a jumble of plants along the foundation with an unwelcoming walkway to the front door, and garage doors that are architecturally more prominent than the front door? Crawford will focus on how to give a home that great sense of "curb appeal" through properly enhancing the architecture of the house with plants, trees and bushes, while also making your visitors feel welcome. Bruce is a graduate of Bucknell University and studied landscape architecture and horticulture at Cook College, Rutgers University. Bruce had his own design / build garden business for nearly 25 years, specializing in plantings for year-round interest. His gardens were featured in "Fine Gardening Magazine".
Today Bruce is an adjunct professor in landscape architecture at Rutgers University. His position as Director of Rutgers Gardens, the botanical garden for Rutgers University, involves the management of the 180 acre facility, which includes designed gardens, woodlands and fields. Open 365 days a year with over 20,000 visitors a year, the emphasis is increasingly focused upon interesting plant combinations that can be experienced throughout the changing seasons.
A long time proponent of unusual and fun plants, Bruce has yet to find a plant that he doesn't like. Bruce lectures frequently to horticultural organizations and at continuing education programs. You will also find him quoted regularly in the New York Times "House & Garden" section.
The program will be followed by a "Q & A" session and refreshments.
