Retreat to Victory at Historic New Bridge Landing (10am-4pm)

Join living historians and other history enthusiasts as the story of the Retreat Across the Jerseys begins at Historic Bridge Landing. Walk in the footsteps where history was made.

History comes to life at Historic New Bridge Landing as reenactors and living historians tell the story of the pivotal “Retreat Across the Jerseys.” Visitors can walk the same ground where General George Washington led his troops across the Hackensack River in November 1776, an event famously described by Thomas Paine in The American Crisis.

The day will feature tactical battle demonstrations centered around the historic bridge, along with tours of the 18th-century homes, new exhibits, and opportunities to speak with historians about this critical moment in America’s fight for independence.
