Pinkster, Spring Festival at Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge
Step back in time and welcome the season at Pinkster: A Jersey Dutch Celebration of Spring, taking place on Sunday, May 17, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Historic New Bridge Landing, 1201 Main Street in River Edge, New Jersey.
This annual event brings 18th-century traditions to life with music, dance, history, and hands-on activities for all ages.
Music and Dance
Enjoy performances by the Tricorne Dance Ensemble, led by dance mistress Denise Piccino, featuring traditional dances throughout the afternoon. Highlights include maypole dances at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, along with a special opportunity for children to join in at 2:30 pm. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Ridley Enslow and Anne Enslow on fiddle and hammered dulcimer.
History and Tradition
At 2:00 pm (time subject to change), Muriel Roberts will present the history of Pinkster and lead a traditional libation toast.
Exhibits and Demonstrations
- Tour the historic 1752 Steuben House, featuring Dutch paintings, Jersey Dutch artifacts, and Revolutionary War items
- Watch lacemaker Beth Harpell of The Lost Art Lacers demonstrate her craft
- See a broom-making demonstration at the Westervelt-Thomas Barn
- Visit the out-kitchen for live cooking demonstrations, including natural egg dyeing and seasonal 18th-century recipes prepared over an open hearth
Family Fun
Families will find plenty to do, including colonial games, a take-home craft, and a QR code-based scavenger hunt.
Refreshments
Refreshments such as donuts and lemonade will be available for purchase in the tavern, and the gift shop will be open.
