Things to do in Bergen County!
In honor of Women’s History Month, The Hermitage invites you to a special guided tour, “A Woman’s Work is Never Done,” exploring the lives and roles of the women who shaped this historic home from 1760 to 1970.
This tour highlights the dramatic shifts in women’s lives across different social classes—from enslaved women and servants to middle- and upper-class women who sustained the household through times of change and challenge. Learn about the legal, educational, and social constraints they navigated, their contributions to the household, and their resilience through slavery, emancipation, and the feminist movement.
As part of this unique experience, visitors will gain rare access to two spaces not typically included in standard tours: the summer kitchen and a servant’s room, offering a better understanding of the daily lives of the women who lived and worked at The Hermitage.
Tours take place on Saturday, March 22, Sunday, March 23, Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30, beginning at noon.
