Bergen County Purim Events: Purim is a joyous holiday that honors the Book of Esther, the story of a woman who became queen of Persia and prevents the genocide of her people. In commemoration of the biblical story, the celebration has turned into a day of fun, costumes, games and sweet treats including a triangle, filled cookie called hamentaschen, named for and inspired by the shape of the villain’s hat in the original story. The following Purim celebrations are being offered by j.family Ambassadors and Active Adults of Jewish Community Center of Northern NJ. The Jewish Community Center of Northern NJ (formerly the Bergen County YJCC), embraces Jewish values and heritage, while maintaining an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and welcomes the community at large to enhance mind, body and spirit through cultural, educational and recreational opportunities, without regard to race, religion or ability.
Tuesday, February 27, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
Mishloach Manot packages (followed by Kosher Senior Lunch with live music)
LOCATION: Temple Beth Or, 56 Ridgewood Rd, Washington Twp
Active Adults of the Jewish Community Center of Northern NJ will be making Mishloach Manot packages to distribute to the Center for Enhanced Abilities, a day program for challenged young adults. Followed by Kosher Senior Lunch, featuring professional musician Don Anthony. Hamentashen Make – Take – Bake (followed by Kosher Senior Lunch)

The Active Adults Program invites participants to learn about the holiday of Purim while they make and fill their own hamentashen to bake at home. Followed by Kosher Senior Lunch. j.family Ambassadors’ Purim Magic
LOCATION: Westwood Rec Center, 55 Jefferson Ave, Westwood
Children are invited to dress up, marvel at a magic show, play games, listen to music, and enjoy refreshments including muffins and hamentaschen with the Jewish Community Center of Northern NJ’s j.family Ambassadors. Registration is available at: jccnnjpurimmagic.eventbrite.com.
