In 1929, Alfred Krause and his wife Hanna opened a gas station in Wyandanch, New York. In addition to selling gasoline, they began giving out homemade lollipops with each gasoline purchase of five gallons or more. It wasn't long before customers started asking to purchase the lollipops for birthday parties. Soon after, they opened a coffee shop that offered Hanna's cakes, cookies, ice cream, and homemade candies. They eventually decided to devote all of their time to making and selling their delicious homemade candy. Alfred told Hanna, " I will put your name in lights!" and Hanna Krause Homemade Candy shop was born.
All candy at Mrs. Hanna Krause Candy, Inc. is made old-fashioned. The candy centers are made with the finest ingredients and cooked in copper kettles over opened flamed stoves, all while hand-mixed. Then the centers are all hand-dipped in the highest grade of either milk, dark, or white chocolate.
