Teaneck International Film Festival Opening Night: Annie Turnbo Malone: The Untold Story

The 2026 Teaneck International Film Festival returns November 5–12 with a lineup of documentaries, narrative films, shorts, and filmmaker discussions. The festival continues its tradition of presenting films that address important social issues under its theme, Activism: Making Change.

About the Film

The festival opens with the East Coast premiere of Annie Turnbo Malone: The Untold Story, a documentary about the pioneering African American entrepreneur who built an international hair-care and beauty business in the early 20th century. By 1920, Malone was among the wealthiest women in America, employing thousands of agents, including Madam C. J. Walker.

Directed by Kim Love, the film brings attention to Malone’s remarkable achievements and largely overlooked place in American history.

Sponsored by National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Bergen/Passaic Chapter

Talkback with Kim Love (filmmaker), Demetrius Davis (executive producer), & Giovanni Joseph (executive producer).
