DESCRIPTION:Step back in time and welcome the season at Pinkster: A Jersey Dutch Celebration of Spring\, taking place on Sunday\, May 17\, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Historic New Bridge Landing\, 1201 Main Street in River Edge\, New Jersey. \nThis annual event brings 18th-century traditions to life with music\, dance\, history\, and hands-on activities for all ages. \nMusic and Dance\nEnjoy performances by the Tricorne Dance Ensemble\, led by dance mistress Denise Piccino\, featuring traditional dances throughout the afternoon. Highlights include maypole dances at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm\, along with a special opportunity for children to join in at 2:30 pm. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Ridley Enslow and Anne Enslow on fiddle and hammered dulcimer. \nHistory and Tradition\nAt 2:00 pm (time subject to change)\, Muriel Roberts will present the history of Pinkster and lead a traditional libation toast. \nExhibits and Demonstrations\n\nTour the historic 1752 Steuben House\, featuring Dutch paintings\, Jersey Dutch artifacts\, and Revolutionary War items\nWatch lacemaker Beth Harpell of The Lost Art Lacers demonstrate her craft\nSee a broom-making demonstration at the Westervelt-Thomas Barn\nVisit the out-kitchen for live cooking demonstrations\, including natural egg dyeing and seasonal 18th-century recipes prepared over an open hearth\n\nFamily Fun\nFamilies will find plenty to do\, including colonial games\, a take-home craft\, and a QR code-based scavenger hunt. \nRefreshments\nRefreshments such as donuts and lemonade will be available for purchase in the tavern\, and the gift shop will be open. \nAdmission & Details\n\n$12 for adults\n$7 for students\nFree for BCHS members\n\nFor tickets and more information\, click here\, email bergencountyhistory@gmail.com or call 201-343-9492.

DESCRIPTION:Historic New Bridge Landing is hosting Chwame Gischuch: Under the Shad Moon featuring live demonstrations\, exhibits\, and hands-on experiences. The event takes place on Sunday\, April 26\, 1:00 pm-4:30 pm. \nPrimitive technologist Steve Adams will present talks on foraging and the material culture of prehistory\, with demonstrations including stone tool use\, flint knapping\, and the working of plant fibers. \nRevolutionary War artifacts as well as Native American artifacts from the society’s extensive collection will be on display in the historic 1752 Steuben House. \nAdditional highlights include a broom-making demonstration at the Westervelt-Thomas Barn and tours of the Campbell-Christie House. Stop by the Jersey Dutch out-kitchen\, where historical interpreters will prepare traditional dishes including planked fish and Three Sisters soup\, showcasing Indigenous ingredients such as corn\, squash\, and beans. \nBrowse the gift shop\, and enjoy light refreshments including donuts\, cornbread\, and lemonade will be available for purchase. \nFind more information and purchase tickets here.
