Designed to help players better understand the fretboard through a system of caged chords and scales\, the workshop offers practical strategies that participants can apply immediately in their playing.   \nWhether attendees are beginners looking to strengthen their foundation or more experienced players aiming to improve fluency across the fretboard\, this workshop provides an engaging and approachable learning experience. Participants will explore patterns\, note relationships\, and practical techniques that can make improvisation\, chord work and soloing feel more intuitive. Unlock the Fretboard is an opportunity for guitar players to deepen their musical understanding\, sharpen their skills\, and enjoy a focused session of creative growth. A lifelong music educator as well as a performer\, Sganga has led master classes and workshops in improvisation\, harmony\, Latin rhythms\, and solo guitar arranging. SUMMARY:The Havemeyers of Mountain Side Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon with Tom Dunn discussing one of the most popular Mahwah families\, the Havemeyers of Mountain Side Farm. Tom has been studying Theodore Havemeyer and his family since about 2000\, when Ramapo College bought the “Havemeyer House” for use by its then-president.   \nHavemeyer was a partner in a sugar refining company that later became the largest participant in the Sugar Trust in the 1890’s. Havemeyer first bought property in Mahwah in 1879 and\, between then and his death in 1897\, acquired over 3000 acres.  During Theodore’s lifetime\, it was one of his principal homes\, and there he created Mountain Side Farm\, a major state-of- the- art dairy farm. One or more members of the Havemeyer family continuously occupied parts of Mountain Side Farm from 1879 for 116 years until the death of Theodore’s grandson\, Henry O. Havemeyer\, Jr.\, in 1995.    \nThis one-hour slide presentation will trace the history of this important Mahwah family and property;  include the story of a tragic death;  and reveal some other surprises.   \nAbout Tom Dunn: Tom Dunn is a Trustee Emeritus of the Mahwah Museum. SUMMARY:“Bearing Witness for My Family: Surviving the Holocaust” with Gerald Zaks
DESCRIPTION:Join Gerald Zaks at the Mahwah Museum to dive into his family’s history and the Holocaust.  Gerald Zaks is a second-generation Holocaust survivor who has dedicated himself to preserving the memory of the Holocaust.   \nAfter retiring from a successful career in IT\, he began researching and documenting his parents’ experiences during WWII. Their story begins in 1937\, when his parents were 17 and 18 years old\, and traces their lives from before WWII\, how they were selected for and then survived multiple concentration camps and death marches\, how they were liberated\, and how they rebuilt their lives in America.  \nThis presentation includes historical records\, actual NAZI documentation\, and audio clips from an interview he conducted with his parents in 1980.  His presentation offers a deeply personal story about the human experience of the Holocaust.
