DESCRIPTION:Diego Hedez (AKA Diego Miguel Hernández González) is a Cuban-born trumpeter\, composer\, and improviser whose musical voice fuses Afro-Cuban tradition with jazz and contemporary expression. Born in Remedios\, Villa Clara\, Diego began his musical journey at age nine at the Olga Alonso Vocational School\, exploring various instruments before committing to the trumpet. In 2012\, he won his first competition as a trumpeter; by 2014\, he recorded his first solo with the Villa Clara Youth Symphony. Diego’s collaborations have spanned both Cuban and international artists — from Dave Weckl\, Brian Lynch\, and Victor Goines\, to the Cuban-American drummer Francisco Mela and avant-garde icons like William Parker and Daniel Carter. \nUnder the artistic guidance of Kervin Barreto (of the GRAMMY-winning Calle 13)\, he gained new insight into performance and improvisation\, further refining his sound. Today\, Diego leads “The New Quartet” and collaborates with ensembles like the William Parker Ensemble.
