On this unique journey\, learn about the epic struggle to carve a nautical shortcut from one ocean to another. Learn about the canal’s construction and its impact on world history\, commerce and medicine. Program will address reasons for the Canal being given up to Panama and current attempts by the USA to regain control. Lecture will be supplemented with historical photos. \nMario Medici\, a retired Information Technology executive who has traveled the world\, is New York City born and raised. He completed his undergraduate degree at Bernard Baruch College (CUNY) and his graduate degree at Long Island University. He is a licensed New York City tour guide (License #2032026-DCA)\, a passionate history enthusiast\, and nurtures his curiosity about all things. In his presentations\, he takes on New York City’s interesting history as well as other subject matter. Through a combination of diligent research\, computer skills and love for amateur photography\, Mario presents the story combining video and music\, as well as elements of art\, architecture and notable individuals\, making each lecture interesting and fast-moving. \n \nMario currently lectures at Bergen Community College’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) and has a growing list of over 80 venues that includes schools\, community organizations\, and libraries.​

In this capacity\, he has played and recorded with numerous small groups and big bands including Louis Haye’s Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band and the Louis Hayes Quartet\, Eric Reed’s Sextet\, Jeremy Pelt’s Quintet\, Natalie Cole\, Wycliffe Gordon\, Connie Francis\, Gloria Gaynor\, the Illinois Jacquet Big Band\, the Christian McBride Big Band\, Cecile Mclorin\, Michael Feinstein\, Dianne Reeves\, Jimmy Heath\, the Count Basie Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. \nA graduate of the Hartt School of Music\, Julius studied with NEA Jazz Master and alto saxophone legend Jackie McLean\, who introduced him to his second musical father\, Illinois Jacquet. He has played in top jazz venues and festivals throughout the United States\, including Lincoln Center\, the Newport Jazz Festival\, Tanglewood\, the Village Vanguard\, Birdland\, Blue Note\, the Jazz Standard and Dizzy’s Coca Cola. As a leader\, his debut album\, “Just the Beginning\,” on the Sharp Nine label\, reached No. 8 on the jazz charts in 2006. \nWalk in cover charges will be higher than purchasing ticket online in advance
