DESCRIPTION:Mark has performed on Broadway several times\, as well. He performed in ‘FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE’ (1992-1993) based on the music of Louis Jordan. ‘KAT AND THE KINGS’ (1999-2000). This musical explores the joyous sounds that were born out of oppression during the 1950’s in Cape Town\, South Africa; APARTHEID. This is a rollicking rock-‘n’-roll musical. Mark has also added to the exciting musical that showcased music of the same title\, ‘SWING’ (2000-2001). Mark has also appeared in ‘Malcolm X’ (1992)\, Spike Lee’s major motion film. Mark also was the lead alto saxophonist with the Jazz @ Lincoln Center All Stars in the Broadway musical ‘AFTER MIDNIGHT’ (2013-2014). \nMark Gross was also a featured musician on the HBO series ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 4 (2013). Mark will also appear in the film ‘ANNIE’ (2014)\, to be released December 19\, 2014. Mark credits his prolific sound to the rich appreciation for Gospel music that resounded through his parent’s Baltimore home. Mark’s father was the Pastor of his hometown church Mt. Zion C.O.G.I.C. up until his passing February 1\, 2007. After developing his interests in classical music at the Baltimore School for the Arts\, Mark studied four years at Berklee College of Music and got his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Performance. \nWalk in cover charges will be higher than purchasing ticket online in advance

DESCRIPTION:St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Closter\, New Jersey\, is pleased to announce the return of Tomas Rodriguez\, as part of their “2025-2026 Concert & Lecture Series” on Sunday\, November 2nd\, at 3:00 P.M.  We are delighted Mr. Rodriguez will be introducing his all new album of his original compositions. Mr. Rodriguez\, a New York City based guitarist has developed a unique repertoire that is rooted in his ancestry and guided by the diverse styles of music that have inspired him.  These include the folk music of Galicia\, Spain\, and the music of Venezuelan harp masters.  Informed by this broad palette\, Rodriguez’ own compositions display an engaging groove\, touching harmonies and a mesmerizing exploration of the guitar’s rich background in the music of Africa and the Americas. Born in Washington D.C. of a Spanish father and a mother from the Appalachian region of Virginia\, Rodriguez grew up in New York\, New Jersey and Idaho. As a child he was inspired by his father’s eclectic record collection\, which included Frank Sinatra\, Beethoven\, the Venezuelan harpist Juan Vicente Torrealba and Latin crooner Lucho Gatica.  As a teen\, he learned to play electric guitar by ear from Jimi Hendrix records\, and went on to study classical guitar with Sharon Isbin at the Manhattan School of Music. A dedicated music educator\, Rodriguez runs a unique honors-level guitar program for young people in Brooklyn\, NY\, using African\, Latin\, Flamenco\, Jazz and Classical styles to teach beginners to advanced students.  Previously\, he founded and directed an innovative after-school guitar program at one of New York’s largest Latino social service organizations\, utilizing music from Latin America and Spain to teach basic guitar skills. He is also a registered Suzuki guitar instructor and has also taught at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.The concert is free to everyone with a $10.00 donation suggested.  A wine and cheese reception follows the concert with an opportunity to meet and greet the artist.  If you have not experienced Tomas in concert\, you are in for a real treat.
