Bergen Volunteer Center’s Mentoring Moms and Mentoring Youth Programs Seeking Volunteers

Bergen Volunteer Center Mentoring Moms and Mentoring Youth Programs Seeking Volunteers

Do you want to help change someone’s life? Are you trustworthy and understanding? Can you commit to being a support system for someone? The Successful Families Programs: Mentoring Moms and Mentoring Youth at Bergen Volunteer Center are looking for volunteers just like you.

Mentoring Youth is a program designed to recruit, train and supervise adult volunteers who provide mentoring support for at-risk youth of social, emotional and/or behavioral problems. Mentors serve as positive role models and offer consistent, unconditional friendship, guidance and caring. Mentors help transform the lives of children that may otherwise have no support system.

Developmental psychologist and co-founder of Head Start, Urie Bronfenbrenner said it best: “development, it turns out, occurs through this process of progressively more complex exchange between a child and somebody else—especially somebody who’s crazy about that child.”

Mentoring Moms is a trusted, informal and healthy support network to help mothers make progress toward providing a safe and stable family environment. Mentors are recruited, trained, and supervised to help their mentees make progress toward personal goals that will strengthen her family and provide stability and safety.

The Successful Families team is looking for mentors to help transform the lives of at-risk children, mothers, and their families. The unique relationship that develops between mentors and mentees is at the heart of the Successful Families mission and vision. Mentors feel great pride and satisfaction by helping individuals in need – but the real reward is the joy this relationship brings to each person’s life. You can make it possible for a child or mother to live a more meaningful life.

Interested potential mentors are invited to attend a general training for both Successful Families Programs on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
