SUMMARY:Ridgefield Park Sustainable Swap & Shop
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Sustainable Ridgefield Park Swap & Shop will take place on Saturday\, September 19\, from 10:00 am-2:00pm at the Civic Center located at 159 Park Street in Ridgefield Park. \n\nThis year’s Swap & Shop gives participants two opportunities to drop off items. Donations can be brought in on Friday\, September 18\, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm\, or on Saturday morning from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.\n\nAccepted items include clean\, gently used clothing for men\, women\, teens\, and children\, as well as accessories such as wallets\, handbags\, scarves\, shoes\, and sneakers. Participants may also bring household linens\, including sheets\, comforters\, blankets\, and curtains; household goods such as pots\, pans\, bowls\, and plates; and small appliances including mixers\, rice cookers\, blenders\, and other handheld appliances. \n\nFollowing the Saturday drop-off\, those who brought items to swap will have access to the Swap & Shop from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be allowed to browse and select items that they want to take home with them.\n \n“Swap & Shop is our way of being proactive in taking steps to Reduce\, Reuse\, Recycle\,” said Veronica Leone\, Chair of Sustainable Ridgefield Park.“ According to the Environmental Protection Agency\, the main source of textiles in municipal solid waste (MSW) is discarded clothing\, although other smaller sources include furniture\, carpets\, tires\, footwear\, and other nondurable goods such as sheets and towels.\n \n“The recycling rate for all textiles was 14.7 percent in 2018\, with 2.5 million tons recycled\, added Leone. “Within this figure\, EPA estimated that the recycling rate for textiles in clothing and footwear was 13 percent based on information from the American Textile Recycling Service.  Sadly\, a staggering 11 million tons get sent to landfills.  When we Reduce\, Reuse and Recycle we are keeping goods and materials out of landfills. It’s all part of educating the community and creating awareness among our residents that clothing\, household goods\, appliances and other items may find a second home.”\n \nAny clothing and accessories that remain after the conclusion of the Swap & Shop will be donated to local organizations and shelters. DESCRIPTION:Main Street will be transformed into a giant town block party\, from Park Street to Cedar Street. This event is presented by the Ridgefield Park Board of Commissioners and each fall it brings out thousands of music lovers. The fair is open from 10 am to 5 pm. The Street Fair is open rain or shine MUSIC Bands will be performing on the Cedar Street stage and there will be a DJ with games and activities at the other end of the street fair by Park Street. VENDORS We have quality exhibitors selling a selection of assorted items\, a special arts & crafts section\, live entertainment\, kiddie rides & games\, great festival foods & food trucks\, and so much more.  Don’t miss stopping by the many local merchants & civic organizations to see what goodies they are passing out between Union & Essex Streets. GOURMET FOOD TRUCKS Come hungry and enjoy eating a wide variety of food favorites like a sausage & pepper sandwich\, cheese steaks\, kettle corn\, chicken fingers\, ice cream\, zeppole\, shish kabobs\, gyros\, fresh cut fries\, fresh squeezed lemonade\, Italian ice\, all served by the local restaurants and gourmet food trucks.
