SUMMARY:Junior Town Crier and Town Crier Competition Celebrates US 250th Anniversary in Fair Lawn
DESCRIPTION:Town Criers are seeing a cultural revival!  \nTowns in the U.S. and U.K. appoint ceremonial criers—like Fair Lawn\, New Jersey’s Tim Yuskaitis—to ring bells\, shout “Oyez\, oyez\, oyez!”\, and boost local heritage\, tourism\, and community engagement \nNow the Fair Lawn Revolution 250 Committee is taking the Town Crier a step further by holding both a Town Crier Competition and a Junior Town Crier Program/Competition on Sunday\, October 4\, 2026 in front of Fair Lawn Borough Hall. \nAward winning Town Crier Tim Yuskaitis is leading the call to educate youngsters on the history of the Town Crier as well as how to perfect the Town Crier call. \nTown Criers date back to medieval and colonial times where they shared news\, laws and more with often illiterate populations. Each had a “cry” which often started with an Old Frenchy word “oyez” (“here ye” or listen” and ending with a royal or civil solute. \nTown Criers wore 18-century livery (or regalia) including tri-corne hats\, waistcoats and breeches. The huge handbell is a staple of Town Criers. \nThe Fair Lawn Junior Town Crier Competition is the first of its kind and will include students grades K-12. \n

SUMMARY:Ridgefield Park Sustainable Swap & Shop
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Sustainable Ridgefield Park Swap & Shop will take place on Saturday\, September 19\, from 10:00 am-2:00pm at the Civic Center located at 159 Park Street in Ridgefield Park. \n\nThis year’s Swap & Shop gives participants two opportunities to drop off items. Donations can be brought in on Friday\, September 18\, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm\, or on Saturday morning from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.\n\nAccepted items include clean\, gently used clothing for men\, women\, teens\, and children\, as well as accessories such as wallets\, handbags\, scarves\, shoes\, and sneakers. Participants may also bring household linens\, including sheets\, comforters\, blankets\, and curtains; household goods such as pots\, pans\, bowls\, and plates; and small appliances including mixers\, rice cookers\, blenders\, and other handheld appliances. \n\nFollowing the Saturday drop-off\, those who brought items to swap will have access to the Swap & Shop from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be allowed to browse and select items that they want to take home with them.\n \n“Swap & Shop is our way of being proactive in taking steps to Reduce\, Reuse\, Recycle\,” said Veronica Leone\, Chair of Sustainable Ridgefield Park.“ According to the Environmental Protection Agency\, the main source of textiles in municipal solid waste (MSW) is discarded clothing\, although other smaller sources include furniture\, carpets\, tires\, footwear\, and other nondurable goods such as sheets and towels.\n \n“The recycling rate for all textiles was 14.7 percent in 2018\, with 2.5 million tons recycled\, added Leone. “Within this figure\, EPA estimated that the recycling rate for textiles in clothing and footwear was 13 percent based on information from the American Textile Recycling Service.  Sadly\, a staggering 11 million tons get sent to landfills.  When we Reduce\, Reuse and Recycle we are keeping goods and materials out of landfills. It’s all part of educating the community and creating awareness among our residents that clothing\, household goods\, appliances and other items may find a second home.”\n \nAny clothing and accessories that remain after the conclusion of the Swap & Shop will be donated to local organizations and shelters. Remaining reuse items will go to the Reuse section at the Ridgefield Park DPW Recycling Center.\n \nFor additional information and questions about the 2026 Swap & Shop\, email SustainableRP@ridgefieldpark.org or visit Sustainable Ridgefield Park Website.

SUMMARY:Award-Winning Blues Act Bees Deluxe at The Lizzie Rose Music Room
DESCRIPTION:WHO: Bees Deluxe w. opener Eclipse \nWHAT: The Lizzie Rose Music Room \nWHEN: Saturday August 1st\, 8:00 pm \nWHERE: 217 East Main Street\, Tuckerton NJ 08087 \n Boston-based British/American modern blues powerhouse Bees Deluxe are buzzing back into Tuckerton New Jersey with their electrifying live show\, landing at The Lizzie Rose Music Room on Friday July 31st at 8:00 PM. Fresh off advancing to the semi-finals this year at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. \nThe Lizzie Rose Music Room is a special stop for the band. “It feels like home to us\,” says guitarist Warre. “We’ve made so many friends there\, and we always look forward to playing the Lizzie Rose.” An intimate\, world-class listening room\, the Lizzie Rose is an intimate live performance venue in a beautifully restored 1860 Sea Captain’s House\, located in the small coastal borough of Tuckerton that hosts every kind of music genre: blues\, folk\, jazz\, rock\, bluegrass\, and singer-songwriters. Bees Deluxe is a four-piece electric band touring relentlessly from Maine to Miami and as far west as the Cleveland House of Blues. \nRegulars at premier venues including Daryl’s House Club\, The Lizzie Rose Music Room\, The Bull Run\, Black Eyed Sally’s\, and Boston City Winery\, the band seamlessly blends classic blues (Etta James\, Bobby “Blue” Bland\, Otis Rush) with modern icons like Robert Cray\, Jimi Hendrix\, and ZZ Top—plus striking originals of their own. Founding member Warre was in a high school band with Paul Kossoff\, of the band Free. He toured Europe with Joe Jackson and The English Beat\, then moved from London to New York where he became a fixture on the stage at the legendary CBGB’s. In Boston\, he formed Bees Deluxe to celebrate the music he fell in love with while touring and playing legendary London clubs like Rainbow Theatre\, Ronnie Scott’s\, Dingwalls\, The Music Machine and the Moonlight Club. Before forming Bees Deluxe he was Production Manager for Rykodisc the first music audio CD company in the States where he worked directly with Frank Zappa\, Yoko Ono\, Richard Thompson\, David Bowie\, Mickey Hart and others.  Carol Band is a classically trained pianist who was recruited while playing jazz in Boston’s club scene. She also writes tunes and wows audiences with her blazing harmonica solos. Opening the evening is Eclipse – Original Progressive Jazz Fusion\, the Cape May based eclectic ensemble at 7:30 pm. www.beesdeluxe.com
