River Edge resident Jacob Burke, 13, presents a $1,000 check to Gilda’s Club NNJ CEO Dyane McMahon as a result of his fundraising efforts on behalf of the cancer-support organization.
For his Mitzvah project, Jacob sold t-shirts with a boxing slogan he designed that read, “Knocking Out Breast Cancer.”
Jacob selected Gilda’s Club NNJ for the project in honor of his grandmother and because of the free, supportive programs it provides to people touched by any type of cancer.
Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey is a cancer-support community serving 12 counties in North Jersey as well as southern Rockland County, and is part of an international network of affiliate clubhouses anchored by Gilda’s Club Worldwide. All services at the Hackensack-based clubhouse, from lectures and workshops to support groups and social events, are open to anyone – men, women, children and teens – who has been touched in any way by cancer, and are completely free of charge.
