Hosted by the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, based at the Hackensack University Medical Center, Kula for Karma presented at the “Teen Cancer Awareness Get Together” conference, recognizing Tomorrows Children’s Institutes 25th anniversary.
Teens challenged by the diagnosis of cancer can bring about further social and emotional concerns such as their loss of independence and the feeling of isolation. The Braves, a Teen Cancer survivors support group, led a panel discussion on the unique needs of teens undergoing cancer treatment.
Founder of Kula for Karma, Geri Topfer and Executive Director, Penni Feiner, spoke about Kula’s role at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and led a three minute meditation to close the conference.
Hackensack University Medical Center’s Tomorrows Children’s Institute, has created programs specially designed to get adolescent cancer patients the best possible treatment including helping them along their journey from childhood to adulthood.
Kula Care is currently teaching therapeutic yoga, breath work and mediation to teen cancer patients and survivors at the hospital. Therapuetic yoga, meditation and breath work are accessible user-friendly tools for stress management to support those who have been challenged by cancer. The goal is to empower patients to manage pain that may cause anxiety and depression.
Founder Geri Topfer said, “We were honored to take part in such an inspiring conference. The teens were amazing and we are thrilled to be able to offer our complementary services for teen cancer patients, survivors and their families to help them along their journey.” For further information about Kula for Karma’s Yoga programs, call Penni Feiner at 201 657 3408.
