Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation will host a free wheelchair basketball and rugby event on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Livingston YMCA, 321 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston.
This event is open to all individuals, particularly those with spinal cord injuries or other disabilities, who are interested in observing or participating in wheelchair sports.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with youth and adult wheelchair basketball and rugby players, as well as with sports wheelchair vendors and trial equipment.
Door prizes and refreshments will be available.
The event is free to the community and donations to the Special Olympics will be welcomed.
“This is a great opportunity for people of all ability levels to learn about the world of adaptive sports,” said Kessler Recreation Therapist Mary Mamrak. “Playing basketball, rugby or other wheelchair sports following an injury can be an important part of the recovery process. It’s also a great way to increase fitness, meet new people and once again participate in fun and enjoyable leisure activities.”
Reservations are requested. For more information, contact Mary Mamrak at 973-414-4725 or email@example.com.
