In her many years as THE biology teacher at Hasbrouck Heights High School, Kathy Hicswa has touched the minds and hearts of hundreds of students. Many have gone on to careers in the sciences as a consequence of their experience in Mrs. Hicswa’s very informative, always lively, and often captivating classes and labs.
Hicswa’s love of teaching and biology often rubs off on her students as she gives them experiences and insights into her subject area that take them to new levels in the study and understanding of life and life forms.
In addition to her academic impact, Hicswa has participated with numerous students in extra-curricular activities (service clubs and social activities) and helped them give back to their community and school in positive ways over her many years of service. She has proctored and advised many clubs and activities, and has always worked in a positive and helpful manner that has demonstrated her caring, concern, and support for her students and her colleagues. Simply stated, Mrs. Hicswa is a teacher making a difference.
