After a successful inaugural launch last spring, Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County is pleased to announce the return of The After School Academy for Advanced Studies in Mathematics, Science, Arts and Technology @ Schechter. Courses Begin Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

Open to all 5th through 8th grade students in the Bergen County area, the After School Academy (ASA) is specially designed to provide motivated middle school students with an extraordinary course selection of hands-on, interactive learning that will extend their knowledge, stimulate their minds, encourage their curiosity, and open new academic vistas.

Once again, the ASA has assembled a team of outstanding, experienced professionals who will teach the Academy’s innovative and fascinating courses.

The ASA @ Schechter is pleased to introduce “Introduction to Chinese Culture & Mandarin Language,” and “CSI,” a hands-on study in forensic science.

Returning are such popular offerings as “Unlocking the Mysteries of Stem Cells & Genomes,” (requires teacher recommendation) and “Video Game Design.”

“In response to wide-spread demand, we have designed this program to not only benefit the talented middle school students in our school, but in the greater Bergen County area,” notes Ruth Gafni, Schechter Head of School.

Directing the program is Daniel Jaye, award-winning educator, author, and current Director of Academic Affairs at Schechter. Mr. Jaye is the former Principal of Bergen County Academies and former Assistant Principal of Mathematics at Stuyvesant High School in New York City.

ASA classes are offered Mondays & Tuesdays (4:30-6:30 pm – pizza snack included), beginning Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County, 275 McKinley Avenue, New Milford, New Jersey. (Group and organizational discounts are available.)
