For more than a decade, the Children’s Place Early Care & Learning Center has been a trusted resource for Bergen County area parents seeking high quality care and early education for children 6 weeks through 4 years of age. Located in a charming Victorian house in Rutherford, New Jersey, The Children’s Place Early Care & Learning Center prides itself on being a NJ-State-Licensed early learning center that offers a unique, homey environment with staff who are loving, nurturing, experienced and committed to providing a wonderful learning environment for children.
Creating a Love for Learning
The culture at Children’s Place Early Care & Learning Center is focused on creating a love for learning. Children are allowed to explore, build confidence in their own ideas, and develop their own skills, as the staff assists in cultivating positive behavior, bringing out the best in each child and preparing them to be lifelong learners. They consider both chronological age and where the child is developmentally when deciding which group would be most appropriate for each child. Young children develop at different paces and have different needs. The Children’s Place team strives to provide the best environment for each child to thrive while having all of his or her needs met.
The Children’s Place infant/toddler class is licensed for 12. Each age group has their own separate class. Their infant ratio is 3:1, and toddlers 18 months and older is 5:1. The preschool class is licensed for up to 16 children. The ratios fluctuate depending on the ages currently enrolled, but is generally kept between 6:1 and 8:1. Infants follow their own individual schedules and are stimulated throughout the day by being read to, talked to and sung to. Infants are also introduced to other activities which are developmentally appropriate. Toddlers and preschoolers follow a general schedule that includes child-directed and teacher-directed activities, sensory play, art, circle time, meal time, rest time and outdoor play. Schedule and activities are based on children’s interests and needs.
All equipment, toys and activities are specifically chosen because they are developmentally appropriate for each group. Infants have their own classroom, so they are free and encouraged to explore and develop all skills. The Children’s Place team believe infants should be free to move their bodies, not be confined so swings and excersaucers are not used. The center has a fenced and secure outdoor playground that can be gated to create two separate play areas so that infants can enjoy outdoor time safely while older children can run and build their motor skills. The playground features two types of surfaces, grass and a rubberized safety surface. They have outdoor playhouses, riding toys, outside easels, water and sand tables.
Toddler and preschool classes are designed with various learning areas including music, art, blocks, dramatic play, library, manipulatives and a quiet space.
Partnership With Parents
Developing a strong relationship with parents is very important to the Children’s Place staff. Reports go home to parents daily and teachers meet regularly with parents to discuss development and any concerns.
