The Wood Brothers at Mexicali Live

Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ

The Wood Brothers may have released their debut studio album, Ways Not To Lose, in 2006, but the music they’ve produced since beginning their current collaboration stands as timeless as any of their many influences.

As young men, brothers Chris and Oliver Wood took wildly divergent paths. Moving away from their childhood home in Boulder, CO, Oliver made his home in Atlanta while Chris went to New York. Oliver began to fall in love with the southern music scene, finding his voice as a singer and songwriter and building his repertoire around blues and folk music with his band, King Johnson. Meanwhile, Chris picked up the music of the Manhattan scene, pulling influences from both jazz and rock and roll, and formed his own band, Medeski Martin & Wood.

A few years back, Chris and Oliver began the collaboration that had stared them in the face for so long, forming The Wood Brothers and digging deep into their eclectic musical roots to form a sound with a bit of something for everybody. Ways Not To Lose was Amazon.com’s #1 editors’ pick in folk music in 2006, and subsequent albums Loaded and Up Above My Head have continued the brothers’ musical tradition. With such a unique musical background for this guitar-bass duo, it’s no wonder they’ve shown no signs of slowing down, and audiences in Bergen County can see this musical revolution for themselves at Mexicali Live on March 18th.
