When you see the signature Panama hat, dark sunglasses, bowtie and jacket, you know you’re either looking at Leon Redbone or one of his many imitators. But if you happen to be at the Berrie Center at Ramapo College on March 14th, you’ll get to see the genuine article, guitar and all, for a show that will bring Tin Pan Alley into the 21st century.

Fans of turn-of-the-century jazz and blues standards (that’s 20th century, not 21st) will be delighted to hear Redbone’s faithful interpretations of old classics Rolling Stone once called “so authentic you can hear the surface noise [of an old 78 rpm]." With a career spent playing his own creations interspersed with numbers by the likes of Hank Williams, Irving Berlin, and Jack Norworth, Redbone has no shortage of material for his live shows, which also include healthy doses of comedy and stage performance. His several live albums, along with his nearly dozen studio works, stand as a testament to his resilience as an artist and his ability to bring audiences young and old back to a simpler time in popular music.

Redbone became a fixture in American households during his numerous appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Saturday Night Live, and on March 14th, he will be in the flesh at the Berrie Center. Fans of ragtime music will not want to miss this unforgettable experience.
