Bergen Community College will pay tribute to Dr. Ron Mazurek, a dedicated Bergen Community College faculty member who touched countless lives as a musician and associate professor of music, with “The Ron Mazurek Memorial Scholarship Concert: Ars Electronica 2010,” featuring performances by College faculty and students, accompanied by electronic music instruments on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre on the College’s main campus in Paramus. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for students. Proceeds will benefit the Ron Mazurek Scholarship Fund.

Dr. Mazurek was instrumental in the development of Bergen’s Associate of Arts Degree in electronic music and was also the recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Senior Specialist Award, in Bogota, Columbia, and a Fellowship in Composition from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. In October 2009, the College renamed the Music Technology Laboratory in West Hall in honor of Dr. Mazurek’s passion for education and commitment to students.

Performances for the evening include:

Todd Reynolds, a violinist, composer and conductor, will perform a set of original compositions with the electrified violin. Mr. Reynolds will be accompanied by Bergen Community College Distinguished artist Eric Singer, who founded the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots, a group of artists and technologists who create robotic musical instruments.

Dancers choreographed by instructor Janette Dishuk will perform a three movement work to the song “It’s Her Turn,” that depicts the strength, power and needs of women. The song was composed by Dr. Linda Marcel, professor of music and chair of the College’s Performing Arts Department.

Musician Elizabeth Walsh will perform a piece she wrote titled “Dreaming Stories,” on electrified percussion.

Bergen student Szymon Adamczyk will perform an original composition “Lost Memories,” accompanied by Bergen Professor Dan Sheehan on Electric guitar. The concert will also feature original music from the College’s electronic music students, along with videos presented by the college’s animation students and dance performances choreographed by Bergen Professor Priscilla Brownlee.

Bergen Community College’s Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre is located on the College’s main campus at 400 Paramus Road, Paramus.
