Halloween Pumpkins
 

Halloween is always a spooktacular time of year in Bergen County and this October is no exception. Most towns in the County will host their own Halloween parades, parties or activities for families and children .Check with your local municipality for times and dates for any scheduled events. Otherwise, here’s a closer look at some of the Halloween-related events going on throughout Bergen County.

Bergenfield
The Bergenfield Recreation Committee and the Bergenfield Community Center Building Fund will host the Halloween parade at the Bergenfield High School track beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 31. Registration is at 9 a.m. In the event of rain, go to the high school gymnasium. Awards will be given out for best costume to toddler through third grade; grades four through 6, grades seven and eight and nine through 12. All children in costume will receive a goodie bag.

Closter
The Borough will host a Halloween parade on Oct. 25. For more information, check the borough website at www.closterboro.com.

Cresskill
The Borough will host a Rag-A-Muffin Parade and pumpkin painting contest on Oct. 24. For more information, check the borough website at www.cresskillboro.com.

Garfield
The Garfield YMCA will host its annual Halloween event on Oct. 30 from 6-9 p.m. The downstairs of the Y will be a haunted house while the gym will have a DJ and apple bobbing while the upstairs will be dedicated to pumpkin painting. Cost is $8 for the full event and $6.50 without the haunted house.

Glen Rock
The Women in Community Service Halloween Parade will take place at 9:30 a.m. rain or shine on Oct. 31. The fun starts at 9:30 at Veteran’s Park, rain or shine. Registration is at 9 a.m.

Hasbrouck Heights
The Halloween in Woodland Park Adventure will take place on Oct. 20 from 6-9 p.m. Rides are every 15 minutes and tickets are $5. The rain date is Oct. 22. For more information call 201-288-4143. The Ragamuffin Parade will take place at 1 p.m. on Oct. 31 beginning at the Public Safety Building.

Lyndhurst
The Department of Parks and Recreation will host the Halloween parade on Oct. 31  beginning at the Town Hall Park Gazebo at 1 p.m. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend. Prizes and goody bags will be awarded. If the weather isn’t cooperating, youngster will head directly to the Senior Citizens Building where their costumes will be judged. Mahwah
The Town will host a Halloween parade on Oct. 31 beginning at 5 p.m. at The Commodore Perry Field.

Montvale
Depieros Farm

The farm will be hosting hayrides and pumpkin picking throughout the month of October. There is a 1,000-bale hay maze, Halloween and harvest decorations, Halloween cakes and other treats as well as face painting on weekends. School trips are available. The “Scariest Haunted House in New Jersey” will also be open for the entire month. For more information, go to www.dipieros.com.

Paramus
The Bergen Children’s Museum

The Museum will host its 11th annual Spooktacular from Oct. 17-31. The entire museum will be transformed for Halloween though things won’t be too scary for the little ones. Come wearing costumes and trick or treat throughout the museum. Decorate pumpkins and hear Halloween stories. Extended hours for this event are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cost is $14 per child and $10 per adult and that includes unlimited playtime, candy, crafts etc. This is not a peanut free event.

Ramsey
The Borough will host a Halloween parade on Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. at Finch Park.

Van Saun Zoo
The Van Saun Zoo will be hosting its annual Halloween/Fall spectacular on Oct. 23-24. The show on Oct. 23 will take place from 6-9 p.m. There will be a 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. performance on the 24th. The noon show is more child friendly while evening show on the 24th is scarier and could prove to be more frightful for youngsters. Tickets are on sale and cost $6. There is a 20-ticket per person limit.

Westwood
The Westwood Recreation Department will host the annual Ragamuffin Parade on Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. All pre-schoolers through third grade are welcome to join. The parade starts from the railroad station, heads up Westwood Ave. to Center Ave. and then to Jefferson Ave. before ending up at the community center. Will Shaw will perform juggling and magic tricks. Westwood Ave. will be open on Halloween. Merchants giving out candy will display a poster in their window.

Wyckoff
The Bergen County Environmental Center will host hayrides for children from Oct. 27-29 at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. There is no charge and no reservations are required. Call ahead [201-891-5571] in case of inclement weather. The ride is geared mainly toward pre-school children. The Center will also be hosting Cabbage Night on Oct. 25 from 1-5 p.m. There will be pumpkin paintings, bouncy rides, music and other treats. There is no charge.
