Northern New Jersey is welcoming the Super Bowl in a big way with community events, festivals, fundraisers, 5k runs, parties and other area happenings, all scheduled for the days leading up to the "Big Game" at MetLife Stadium on February 2nd. Here are a few "Big Game" events happening in our area in the coming days:

Super Bowl XLVIII Media Day in Newark

Super Bowl XLVIII Media Day will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Doors will open at 9:00 am. During Media Day, fans will sit in the stands in the arena and watch thousands of media from around the world interview members of the participating Super Bowl teams on the floor. Fans will receive a Media Day gift bag that will include a radio to tune into the day’s coverage on NFL Network and listen to some of the individual player interviews from the podium. Super Bowl Host Committee Public Concert Event and Fireworks Display in Jersey City

Area football fans and visitors to New York and New Jersey will have a unique opportunity to welcome Super Bowl XLVIII to the region, as the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee in partnership with Macy's will produce the "Super Bowl Kickoff Spectacular," a free, ticketed event featuring performances by Daughtry and Goo Goo Dolls, with additional acts to be announced, and a first-class Macy's Fireworks show. The kickoff event, the first to ever be associated with a Super Bowl, will take place on Monday, January 27, along the Hudson River at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey, and serve as the official launch to the weeklong events. Females, Football & Philanthropy Fundraiser in Clifton

Females, Football & Philanthropy will be the first-ever NY/NJ celebration for women, by women and about women raising funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society and their 100th year anniversary. Powerhouse women from New York and New Jersey will join together on Thursday, January 30th from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm at the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, New Jersey. The three unifying objectives for this event are: energizing women, acknowledging and celebrating the women that love the sport of football and creating a blockbuster fundraiser. Winter Blast at Buchmuller Park in Secaucus

Winter Blast, a three-day “Pregame before the Big Game” celebration comes to Buchmuller Park in Secaucus, NJ on Thursday, January 30 from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Friday, January 31 from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Sunday, February 1 from 11:00 am to midnight. This action-packed winter attraction will take place approximately three miles from MetLife Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLVIII. A highlight of Winter Blast will be the Food Truck Mash-Up – 30 award-winning food trucks selling a variety of delicious foods every day of the event. First Avenue and Wilson Street in Secaucus will be closed to traffic to accommodate the food trucks and the event’s Beer Garden. Hosted by Charlie’s Corner bar, the Beer Garden will feature brews from Brooklyn Brewery, Heineken and Anheuser-Busch. Music, giveaways and fun will be provided by the top radio stations in the area. NASH radio will host a country-music themed Friday night with special guest Kelly Ford, and New York’s 92.3 NOW street team will have giveaways, prizes and fun on Saturday. The ice rink will showcase hockey games featuring local hockey teams, sled hockey and Challenger hockey games. During non-game times, open skating will be available to whoever wants to give it a whirl. New Jersey Devils alumni players Bruce Driver, Gary Marshall and Ken Daneyko will appear at a meet and greet session on Friday, January 31 beginning at 5:30 pm. Pregame Yoga Fundraiser in Ho-Ho-Kus

On Saturday, February 1, 2014, Flow Yoga, Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey will host a Pre-Big Game event to benefit Yogis Heart Foundation. The fundraiser will feature yoga class beginning at 6:00 pm, music by DJ Gary Wohlrab, food and drinks. A half time show will include signature Yogis Heart pant by K. Family-Friendly "Big Game" Party in Saddle Brook

Chris Broussard of ESPN and King Ministries and Pastor Eric Brewer of Rhema Worship Center will present a fun, family friendly Big Game party on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Rhema Worship Center International, 381 N. Midland Avenue, Saddle Brook, New Jersey from 5:00 pm until game over. In addition to the "Big Game", the event will feature pool, spades, and PlayStation tournaments, dinner and snacks. Meadowlands Tailgate Party in East Rutherford

The Meadowlands Tailgate Party will be held on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2, 2014 on Park Avenue, near the Rutherford Train Station, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This super event will feature food from over a dozen gourmet food trucks, beer tents, winter-themed games of chance including a snowball toss game, a children's section that includes a giant blow-up football toss and much more.
